Today was a state line day!! I always feel a little extra motivated in the morning on state line days!
We slept in until 7:40 and got a bit of a late start, but we still made good time today. 22 miles later, we were in Wyoming!
Wyoming holds a special place in my heart. I can’t even begin to tell you how many summer vacations I have spent in Wyoming visiting the Grand Teton National Park And Yellowstone National Park.
Today was a great day of riding. We were losing elevation, so we had lots of really long and fun descents. Don’t tell my parents, but I somehow hit almost 44 mph going down one of the hills today. It was long and drawn out and I knew I was going fast, but I didn’t know it was that fast….oops.
Strava said we gained 144 ft today, and I know it’s wrong!! The elevation chart of our ride doesn’t even look accurate. We had some pretty long climbs today.
So…we were riding along and saw some cows, and then we noticed one of the cows had crossed the grate on the road that entered their field…he was on the wrong side of the fence. He started trying to get back to his heard, but just couldn’t figure it out. Mash had the great idea to heard him back into the fenced area, so we did!! We tried to scare him into going into the other direction and eventually he made it back in. That was our good deed for the day.
It took us 50 miles to reach the first gas station today! We got some lunch there, and when we were leaving a little girl came and talked to us. She had been to Yellowstone with her family.
Speaking of family, I got to see my parents today!! They can and found us on the route!! I was so happy to see them. They even bought Mash and I supper and gave us water, sunscreen, and snacks. They’re the best.
I was sad to see them go, but I will be seeing them here in a few weeks when I get back home!
The next few days will be interesting. The towns are spaced out inconveniently. Tomorrow we have the option of riding 40 miles to a town, riding 100 miles to the town after that, or riding somewhere between 40 and 100 and camping out in the middle of nowhere.
So…none of the options are super appealing. But, that’s part of the adventure, right?!I’m not sure on how the phone service will be the next few days, so I’ll try my best to update my blog!
Thanks for following my journey!! 😊
